Key features

Rear terraced extension

The refurbishment fills in the former car park space with a terraced ‘wedding cake’ style extension, adding floors to the rear block.

Working with existing floor-to-ceiling heights

Tight head heights in the existing building have required a thin structural zone to the extension, this has been overcome with new RC flat slabs.

Reducing weight on the existing foundations

To reduce weight on the existing foundations and maintain a large column grid, a steel frame with lightweight cross-laminated slabs was used on the additional floors.

Relocating plant to enable floor space

A new basement plant room is planned below the existing car park, freeing up roof area for high quality office space.
