Practice, News & Press
•We turned 18!

To mark our milestone 18th year in practice, we celebrated in true HTS style with a house party at our London studio.
It was a joy to welcome clients, colleagues and friends of the practice to our Chart Street home to celebrate our evolution thus far, from humble beginnings as a 3-man company to a nearly 200-strong, multi-disciplinary EOT.

Founding Directors Andy Heyne, Mark Tillett and Tom Steel, who set up the business in 2007, reflected on the wealth of progression and growth we have achieved as we approach 20 years in business. With a portfolio of over 3,500 projects, this felt like the moment to extend heartfelt thanks to our clients and the consultants we’re in business with, as well as our staff, who we wouldn’t be here without.

“I think the key to our success is how we go about our work; we take our work seriously but not ourselves. We’re very professional but we’ve never been corporate. We live and work with a real freedom, and the people we work with share that.
People stay here for a long time, they find a home where they can be themselves and a place that they can add to; these long-term relationships are where the magic happens.”
Mark Tillett, Founding Director

Our values
The values of the company have remained the same since the outset – professional and approachable, dynamic and determined, with a culture of curiosity and adventure. We continue to be a practice that’s fun and rewarding to be part of, and a team that’s enjoyable to work with.
This is underpinned by our move to become an Employee-Owned Trust in 2021, and our B Corp certification in 2023, as well as the creation of our self-funded research initiative, HTS+, and the Engineers Reuse Collective, which we co-founded with our peers in the industry.
“We have a great tradition of home-grown solutions. This goes right back to the beginning when we used to design and build our own desks – it was always a fun and memorable process and really spearheaded our drive for doing things internally as a practice.
Now, of course, we’ve moved on from our desk-building days, but we still champion home-grown ideals and surrounding ourselves with excellent, talented people to make them happen.”
Tom Steel, Founding Director
