Hackney

Structural engineering design for a new nine-storey commercial development located in the South Shoreditch conservation area. The completed building will provide flexible and affordable workspace for a range of tenants, from small start ups to established enterprises.

Key features

  • Demolition of two existing office buildings to form one unified building with two levels of basement
  • This structure will be formed of a steelwork superstructure around a central reinforced concrete core to provide lateral stability
  • The basement retaining walls will be formed from a secant piled wall installed from ground floor inboard of the existing walls
  • The foundations will be constructed from a concrete raft slab with tension piles to resist uplift forces and will re-use the existing piles on site to enhance the bearing capacity
