Key features

Concrete re-use

Approximately 1,960m³ of concrete is being reused on the site, and a further 1,680m³ is being crushed for re-use on site, avoiding transport emissions.

Reducing embodied carbon by 48%

By using 300mm-thick post-tensioned concrete slabs on a 7.5m x 10.5m grid with CLT floor infills, the 19-storey structure’s embodied carbon is reduced by 48% compared to conventional construction methods.

Structural steel frame

The 19-storey building has a steel frame with shallow, fabricated steel beams supporting composite precast concrete slabs.

Complex site above tunnels

The piled rafts have been strategically located across the complex site, which straddles subterranean Post Office tunnels.

Basement retention and strengthening

The existing double-storey basement is being retained and strengthened with RC piled rafts.
