Key features

Refurbishment of 1990s office building

The existing RC frame building has been extended in part with a lightweight steel frame and metal deck, making efficient use of capacity in the retained structure and foundations.

Glulam and CLT exposed atrium structure

A dramatic atrium was created with an exposed glulam and CLT structure, which fixes back to the existing RC slabs.

Archive investigations

After extensive archive investigations on the load-bearing capacity of the existing structure, no additional work to the foundations was required.

Efficient installation and prefabrication

Timber elements were prefabricated according to a module system, which meant they could be installed quickly and efficiently on site.

Key features: public realm

Biophilic design and water features

Weirs and water features were incorporated into the public realm to aerate the water and provide a healthy, natural environment.

Workspaces within the landscape

Flexible outdoor workspaces, including newly planted trees, shrubs and aquatic flora, are nestled throughout the landscaping.
