Key features

Complex site on chalk bedrock

‘Soil mixing’ ground improvement techniques helped to overcome ground conditions that were practically irreconcilable for structural support.

Collaborating with landscape architect

We collaborated with the landscape architect to provide outdoor public amenity spaces and ensure the surface water drainage would support the wider proposals.

SuDS features

Various SuDS features were incorporated, including permeable paving, swales, rain gardens, ponds, permeable paving and below ground attenuation.

Assessing structural approaches

A braced frame solution was found to enable greater flexibility than a portal frame for the structure and layout.

Balancing modular forms with individuality

The proposed designs included two repeated modular forms of similar construction, layout and material finish, while allowing for some individuality.
