Charterhouse School
A new Science and Mathematics Centre for Charterhouse School, extending the Grade II listed Museum Building to provide 50% more space and flexible, modern facilities as part of the wider school masterplan.
Key features
CLT loadbearing wall construction
Constructed on an exposed RC podium slab at first floor level
Complex services re-routing
All existing and historic below ground services needed to be diverted around the proposed foundations in a new trench before construction.
Attenuation under playing fields
We used the area beneath the playing fields next to the building to provide a large soakaway tank for run-off water storage.
Faceted and functional roof form
The distinctive timber roof and steel-framed chimneys incorporate extraction stacks for ventilation of the lab spaces.
