77 Coleman Street
Major redevelopment of a 1980s building adjacent to Underground tunnels. 78% of the existing structure was retained, and previously inaccessible green spaces has been unlocked for the public.
Key features
Extension with steel-framed structure
The existing sixth floor was replaced by a 3-storey steel-framed extension, providing two new levels of workspace.
Reconfiguring the cores
Re-coring with a braced steel frame, rather than the original reinforced concrete proposal, helped improve the construction programme.
Modified floorplates
Extensive internal demolition and new construction to modify the floorplates, creating generous floor-to-ceiling heights and making a feature of the retained structure.
New public thoroughfare
By extending the pre-existing Nun Court, new ground floor retail and leisure spaces are facilitated.
