11 Belgrave Road
The transformation of a flawed, unloved 1950s commercial building into a workplace of the future, retaining 35% of the structure and adding an additional floor and generous garden terraces.
Key features
Optimising retained existing structure
We retained 35% of the structure whilst removing internal columns and reconfiguring the lift and stair cores.
31% additional floor area
Achieved by extending the existing floorplates and adding a new penthouse office floor in steel and CLT.
A unique approach to supporting retained slabs
The existing tapered RC propped cantilevered slabs are re-supported off the new extension's post-tensioned slabs.
A new double-height entrance atrium
Created by cutting away a section of the first floor slab.
Complex temporary works
With all internal columns removed, the concrete columns have been strengthened and fire protection of the existing slabs have been increased.
