1139 - Quaker Street

Tower Hamlets

An innovative new-build hotel behind the retained façades of a Victorian warehouse in the heart of Shoreditch, backing on to a Network Rail railway.

Key Features

  • Design of the temporary works for full façade restraint, including gantry over street and back propping through building and meeting the requirements for Network Rail sign off.
  • Formation of basement, including cantilevering over railway arches, underpinning existing walls and founding new structure on raft foundation that is acoustically isolated from groundborne vibration.
  • Sequencing basement formation and underpinning to ensure temporary works and stability maintained throughout.
  • Proposed structure in reinforced concrete, using walking walls to minimise transfer structures.
