0317 - Mayfair House

Westminster

A five storey public residence has been created, incorporating an existing 18th century public house with a new extension. The scheme involves demolition of the existing building with a façade retention and temporary works to neighbouring walls. The new building has three levels of basement with an underground swimming pool and features a gym, home cinema, two roof terraces and partial green roof. The site is extremely congested with highways and adjacent structures tight to each boundary.

The engineering challenge was to create the deep basement tight to the site boundaries while maximising internal floor areas.
The basement was formed using a contiguous bored pile wall to the perimeter with a reinforced concrete internal structure.
