Highgate School’s award-winning Charter Building provides a new main entrance and teaching space for the senior school on North Road, Highgate. The new educational facilities coincide with the schools 450th anniversary and are part of a wider cluster of school buildings totalling 55 acres across north London.
Key features
- The new four storey building features an exposed RC frame and has been designed to make the school more accessible and work in harmony with the existing historic buildings
- Flexible, high-quality teaching spaces which have generous natural daylight and good simple proportions
- New science, and IT classrooms have been created, and a sustainability terrace includes weather stations and photovoltaic panels as demonstration tools for the curriculum
- HTS conducted significant archive research and investigation works on the site, which dates back to 1565, reducing risk on site and providing programme efficiencies
