1390 - Harrison Gibson Building

Redbridge

Situated on the High Road, on the main pedestrian shopping street and moments away from Iford Train Station, Heyne Tillett Steel worked closely with AWW Architects to design a multi-use development over three blocks. The existing building, a 1960s post-tensioned concrete department store, is to be demolished and new piled foundations installed inside the existing basement box.

The proposed building will consist of 2,200m2 mixed commercial space and 323 residential units varying in size from 3 bed town houses to studio flats. The building will extend up 30 storeys on the block closest to the railway.

The proposed structure mimics that of the demolished building with the use of post-tensioned concrete above podium level (2nd). This reduces the slab thicknesses, allowing more headroom in the units and reducing the self-weight of the structure and therefore foundation requirements.
