The refurbishment of a 1920s former warehouse building in Clerkenwell. The office development includes a two-storey rooftop extension in addition to the refurbishment of three existing upper floors. The building has retained commercial retail tenants at basement and ground floor which remained in occupation throughout the works.
Detailed intrusive investigations into the existing foundations and steel frame were required as no archive drawings could be obtained. These investigations confirmed the feasibility of an extension without interventions within the tenanted spaces.
The extension structure includes feature cruciform columns and areas of exposed timber joists.
