1976 - Berkhamsted School
Berkhamsted
A proposed new sixth form centre in the historic market town of Berkhamsted to be formed with a hybrid of reinforced concrete, steel and CLT. The development will provide the school with a state-of-the-art facility to grow their sixth form education offering.
Key Features
- The site overlays significant volume of made ground where previous gas holders had been located. The proposals includes a raft slab to mitigate the risks of creating linkages between contaminated made ground and the lower aquifers below.
- Design of multiple pitched exposed CLT roofs and steel transfer structure.
- HTS produced a flood risk assessment for planning which addressed surface water flood risk at play in the vicinity of the site and set out necessary mitigation measures.
