The feature steel columns supporting a two storey concrete framed overhang have been installed at Union Street. These bespoke struts, cruciform in section and tapering from 500mm at the base to 700mm at the head were designed by AHMM architects for Lake Estates.
The columns inclination brought a challenge to the installation, as a series of temporary props supporting three concrete floors had to be retained throughout the process.
8-Build strategically positioned props and maintained a corridor in order to manoeuvre the columns into position before being fixed to cast in elements.
