Following an exciting research project with Ignis and a leading UK intumescent paint manufacturer, we have developed a set of parameters for better understanding the performance of timber junctions with exposed steel components during fire.
While the results are qualitative, we were delighted to find that with the right setup the temperature in timber and dowelled connections will remain so low that there needs be no concern over the performance of these junctions. This in turn allows us greater confidence in specifying timber and hybrid structures, knowing that the fire performance can be readily proved during the detailed design stage.
We are excited to be able to apply this new knowledge on our projects to unlock progressive and safe building typologies.
