Great news that GPE’s Minerva House, has secured resolution to grant planning permission from Southwark Council.
Designed by Ben Adams Architects on behalf of GPE, the proposals highlight that the existing six-storey 1980s building located on the Thames Embankment, adjacent to Southwark Cathedral and the Golden Hinde, will undergo a sensitive refurbishment to create a new, contemporary workplace. Placing low-carbon strategies at the heart of the project, the original reinforced concrete frame and the existing façade are being reused and extended.
Our work includes the addition of a three-storey extension on top of the existing building while extending the floor plates across each floor and the existing basement, to create new office space and cycle storage. By reconfiguring the cores, the internal circulation is significantly improved and will take the overall commercial space provision to 140,000 sq ft, an increase of approximately 53% on the existing space.
A new public realm walk through will be created to link Southwark Cathedral and the Golden Hinde which will feature a double height entrance.
We can’t wait to share more information soon.
