Digbeth Masterplan approved for planning

We are delighted that Oval Real Estate’s plans for the regeneration of Digbeth have been unanimously approved by Birmingham City Council.

An historic post-industrial neighbourhood with links to trade, craft and the arts, Digbeth is set to undergo a major programme of regeneration and rejuvenation. The consented framework will provide up to 2.2 million square feet of commercial space and 1,850 homes alongside shops, restaurants, cafés and additional leisure facilities.

Alongside the wider design team, HTS is delivering structural and civil engineering services across the framework; refurbishing existing buildings including the Custard Factory and Bond Company, enhancin public realm with new shops, restaurants and cafes and improving existing infrastructure and connectivity.

As the River Rea weaves through the masterplan site, HTS provided flood risk and sustainable drainage services working to ensure that the proposals were sensitive to the existing watercourse. We worked closely with the design team and various stakeholders including the Environment Agency and the Canals & Rivers Trust. The proposed river terracing will have a positive impact on the river both in terms of ecology and flood risk.
