1127 - 26 Underwood Street

Islington

The structural refurbishment and re-cladding of this 1950s bomb-infill site included the creation of new risers throughout and a stair void at ground floor level, along with the installation of new below ground drainage for a shower block in the basement.

The structure and services were all exposed in the finished building. An innovative and interesting element to this project was the addition of a CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) rooftop extension, with views towards the City.

We utilised a steel grillage at roof level to transfer the additional loads over the existing fragile roof slab, and were able to justify the additional loads on the existing frame and foundations without the need for strengthening.
