James Mumford

Associate Director

MA MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE

University of Cambridge

Since joining Heyne Tillett Steel in 2012, James has worked on a variety of refurbishment, extension and new build projects across the sectors. These include Walmar House (RFK Architects), a mixed use refurbishment and extension project behind a partially retained and listed façade above a Victoria Line tube station; Shepherdess Walk (Buckley Gray Yeoman) involving the heavy refurbishment of an existing office building with the addition of two extra floors and a seven storey rear extension; and work on a number of listed buildings within central London.

As a result, he has gained valuable experience in the innovative use of materials and construction techniques, and understands how creative engineering solutions drive value for the project.

James is also working on a number of projects in the small scale residential and institutional fields with up and coming architects. Projects include the design and construction of a retractable canopy at the Charles Dickens Museum, a hanging banqueting table for a restaurant and the regeneration of an East London charity playground.

After working for a manufacturing consultancy following graduation, James returned to the building industry with Barton Engineers in 2010 working on a variety of projects in the residential, institutional and educational sectors. He became a Chartered member of the IStructE in 2014 and was promoted to Associate in 2016.
